Hub Service

Service Overview

Commercial wheel-ends carry tons on two bearings and a film of lubricant. Scheduled hub service — inspection, repack or re-oil, and precise adjustment — is what prevents catastrophic wheel-end failure.

Service involves hub disassembly, bearing and race inspection, repack (grease) or refill (oil-bath) with correct lubricant, new seal, and adjustment verified by dial indicator to TMC standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Grease or oil-bath hubs — does it matter?
Different procedures entirely; we service both correctly, including sight-glass and vent checks on oil-bath designs.
What's proper bearing adjustment?
Set to spec end-play measured with a dial indicator — not 'tight then back a castle slot' guesswork. It's the difference between 500k-mile bearings and failures.
Milky oil in the sight glass?
Water intrusion — the seal or vent has failed. Service soon, before the bearings corrode.
